Been quite a while since I posted here.
A much needed vacation in India.. Weeks spent with family... In another world, with every minute filled with happiness and fun..
Once back, I couldnt get back to cards, with work piled up..
Slowly, found my calling again, and started now...

With Halloween approaching, wanted to make one for my little one.
Missed quite a bit in the paper crafting world in the last few months.

Loved the stampendous, pumpkin stamps.
But couldnt wait to get it.
So set off to make my own.
Diecut the pumpkins, colored and stamped the flourishes from Stampendous on them.
Then distressed them, didnt quite like bright orange against the eerie setting I had.
Popped a few 3-d circle dots and the pumpkins now pop out .

ABNH asking for a card using my favorite Hero Arts stamp :-)
Diecut divas welcoming summer with flowers..

Didnt need any more reason to play with this beauty..

Kept it one layer since HA's current challenge is one layer cards.

The sketch with flowers, stuck in my head, and the different sizes of the flowers was the key to this skletch.
Initially planned to keep it plain stamped, but then, felt that it wasn't doing justice to both the sketch and beauty of the flowers and so die cut a couple of more stamped flowers and gave some dimension and more interest.
Initially I was planning to go stamping.. But accidentally when rummaging through my stash, I found this pattern cardstock from Safari Chic and changed my mind to go with this.
Geometric patterns, mix of circles and squares, and brown and cream.. I think this perfectly fits the inspiration photo..
The Studio-G vintage caged bird, for the cage and the brass/golden bowls in the picture..
The placement of the birdcage took some time, and I went with placing it on the red background, since it was contrasting and the bird cage was prominent. In other colors, it sort of melded with the background.

Sentiment is from Hero Arts/Sizzix stamp and die set.
After stamping the sentiment and die cutting it, traced the die outline on brown cardstock and handcut it to layer it.
My take on the inspiration photo for Papercrafters Week Eleven.
What stuck with me was the organe/yellow colors.

This peacock stamp from Stampendous, is one of my all time favorite..

A beautiful stamp that can carry the card on its slender feathers all by itself, I feel.
When I saw this week's sketch from CAS(E) this sketch - http://casethissketch.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/cts-31.html

It was just the reason to ink this stamp once again.
But I wasnt very happy with a white background and no kraft, which I seem to get drawn by default.
Then I remembered that I had the background cube, again from Stampendous.
So created my own patterened paper with wet cement shadow ink from HA.
The stone wall is a stamp from Kaiserkraft in London Fog.
And resulted in this slender card.
So, this week saw two of my inspiring challenges meet.
The Moxie Fab Trigger Tuesday, In all sweetness and light, colors, haunted me in my sleep too.
I was initially drawn to the paisleys, but I couldnt pull it off in the bright yellow inks I have.

The sketch from Mojo Monday #296, was pulling in the other side.
And, a very sweet little girls birthday is coming up soon. The girl with the sweetest smile I have seen so far :-)

And in an ah ah moment, the 3 met and hence was born this card, after a prolonged birth.
Too many ideas, tossed in to the bins..
The 2 vertical lines in the sketch, had me stumped, and I didnt quite like 2 paper banners and the ribbons I had didnt go well..
Finally remembered the sizzilit button die I had and once I made some paper buttons, things fell through, but even then rather slowly..
So much so that, I got up at 4AM just to get this card done..
The last time, I woke up to a time earlier than 6.30, was to see India in the finals, last world cup. :-)

I think I did justice to both the challenges..
Here is card, in all sweetness and light ...

The inspiration photo for this card is based on Papercrafters, Magazine Mondays Week 9 challenge.
Also, at LawnScaping , this week's challenge, Challenge #59 - Coloring.
A perfect oppurtunity to pair these two up.

The week passed by fogged by cold and allergies.
Saturday morning till afternoon was spent, "celebrating" my kids graduation from Kindergarden.
An IHOP breakfast, where we got a table after 1/2 hr and it became a brunch by the time the food arrived.
Then began the hunt for formal clothes for the little one, for daddy's graduation ceremony, this week.
And a birthday in the evening.. Ah.. a hectic but good day..
So finally I could sit down to transfer the inspiration to some form, only late night..

I had just purchased a set of Pearlescent water colors. This one to be exact. From Aaron Brothers.

My son was too thrilled that, he "got" an Artist coloring set, from an Art shop. :-)

Since he was with me, this automatically became his.
So late saturday night, we sat down and he graciously allowed me to borrow his colors.. Kids rule the world, dont they?

The magazine monday's inspiration photo is below. What stuck me, about it was the Asian looking girl, and the blue, sand, and the orange in the boat..
This Japanese cherry blossoms, from Hampton Art was waiting to be inaugurated.. And so fit my inspiration..

So went with the lovely stamp and water colors.
My first attempt at uncontrolled water color drips. Went with how the colors developed.. Then colored the flowers using pearlescent sandy brown and a few with fuscia..

Here is a shot of the card :

School year in its last week..

Friday is teachers day.

And I wanted to make small thank you notes for the kids teachers.

A quick scan of my stamps and the three little kids, from Stampin Up, caught my eye

Whats more symbolic of summer, than kids having fun

Whats summer without the SUN?

The sun from Hero Arts, Stamp yout story line - Time, provided the perfect match

Since these cards are for the teachers, I made a few in chalkboard style and a couple in other left over scraps.

I scripted Thank You with a white gel pen..

In the end I liked how they turned out..

Last week, lost in the web of the world, I landed on this sweet blog,

I was hooked on and wanted to give it a try..
Had many ideas, which felt so beautiful in my mind..
Then in Lets Craft and Create, it Things with Wings..

Though initially, I had another idea in mind, I decided to combine this both and resulted in this card.

I got this big Hero Arts, S5506 Flower Text, stamp from Michaels.
Being a big stamp, I had to use a brayer to get the stamping done.
Since it was my first time stamping a big stamp with a brayer, first couple didnt come through fully. There were places of uneven inking.
Didnt have the heart just throw them away
So converted them into tags.

Used acrylic paints for the paint strokes.
Real paint splatter.

With a White gel pen, highlighted the flowers here and there.
The wordings are a mix from HA Stamp your story line.
U'R DAY is from a different stamp set.
The middle smaller brush strokes are using Hero Arts C2815, Paint Stroke Elements, not inked but brushed with white paint.
Combined the different wordings from the Stamp your story set to create the sentence
"Art makes the day perfect"
"make" and "S" are different size because I selectively stamped the letters from different wordings from the set.
"the" is from a Stampendous set.

At every opportunity, I try talking to Nikhil about the sacrifice , the men & women in uniform, make for the country.
Away from their family, in harsh surroundings, fighting selflessly, for people whom they have never met.
My little way of making him understand how privileged he is, how he needs to think beyond himself.. How life is not ALL about yourself, and how you live your life the way you do, because of others who are willing to sacrifice it.
Guess every mom would be doing the same thing in their own way.

It so happened, that just before memorial day, I met a mom of a soldier, Jenny, in one of the craft corners.
Jenny is such a wonderful artist. You should visit her blog and experience her creations - http://thiseverydaylife.com
[edited] Initially I was reluctant to refer to him by name, but because his Artist mother, has commented with his full name, I am adding it.
Her son. Reggie is a PFC in the US Army and is currently deployed in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
So this memorial day, we spent that day crafting for a cause.

I made this simple Thank You card.
I wanted to force myself to keep it simple.
Kraft and brown & light green splotches and circles to match his uniform.
Trying to bring in the USA flag in the card and make it more patriotic, I chose to add stars in white, red and blue.

Nikhil wrote a letter to the HERO. Talking about himself and his Super Heroes.
Soon we will be posting the parcel.

A small token to the brave soldiers all around the world.
Yesterday night, when I got down to do a couple of pages for my journal, or at least, thought I would do that,
my little one, tagged along, almost in lines of,
.................
Everywhere mummy goes, mummy goes , mummy goes
Nikhil was sure to go..
:-)
And saw the paint splat set from Hero Arts and decided that he wanted to start an art journal and do a page.
Yes, decided, for there it was just conveyed to me, not a request :-)

So I thought I will let him
He chose the splats he wanted, peeled them from the acetate backing, placed them on the acrylic blocks
Selected the colors he wanted
And Kept the Rocket set from Hero Arts again.
And I suggested the constellation stamp from Rubber Stampede.

And this is the result...

For the entire page, he chose which colors to use, where to stamp..
Inked the stamps himself..
The only convincing I had to do was to stamp the page tab and calender on the same sheet
He wanted to do it on the back.

In a surprise move, he wanted to enter this also in mummy's competition..
Please share your comments, to encourage this little guy.
This card, draw its inspiration from the cover of this book - Ed Emberley's complete funprint.
Sunday, my son was attending a Birthday party at the Color me Mine studio.
And I chanced at this book.

Suddenly in the middle of the week, I wanted to use this idea, to make a couple cards for the little critters, running around with my son..

Here are the cards:

The first one,

The second one,
This is the second card I made for the day.
I am still reeling from the adrenaline rush, of creation..
That, I am writing this blog, though I am half asleep.

After having done with the first Agapanthus card, I wanted to do something different.
Mixed Media Stamping is something I have been wanting to give another try.
My first Mixed Media was based on the Stampendous Peacock feather - http://myothercupofjava.blogspot.com/2013/04/my-first-mixed-media-stamping.html

So decided to try it such.

The Card...

The Story..
So to start with, I was in search of a background..
I wanted text, since I didnt want to take away the attention from the Agapanthus.
The only all-text background stamp I have is a rather small one from Recollections.
So went with the size, and made a rather small 4*4.25 card.
Pretty unconventional size.
First stamped the text in weathered wood Distress Ink.
Then inked the sides and edges with the same color.
Inked again with rusty hinge.
Now, painted across with white water color paint.
Used a rather thick brush.
Then came yellow acrylic paint strokes, more towards the top.
On gut feeling, added strokes of bronze, acrylic paint
Rather impatient, heat gun'd it.
Then inked up the Agpanthus stamp in Bronze, and stamped to the left side.

Layered it over a mustard piece of cardstock to add contrast.
Tied a piece of embroidery thread. (I still need color twines.)
To finish it off, added a wooden die cut butterfly, and knotted the thread across it.
And stuck on top of a craft base.

Decided to leave the card as such, since it looks more like a scenery.
Like sunset..
What do you think?

A couple of more shots...

Guess, there is something amiss with the alignment of the stars..
Or maybe by brain changed left to right, or is it right to left..
Whatever the reason, I had a sudden spike in creativity, and made more than one card today.

This post is about the first one...
I got this beautiful, Agapanthus Stamp from Stampendous some time back
And been waiting for the perfect idea to use it..
And it happened today
Happy how the card turned out..
And now, this stamp joins my Elite Favorites :-)
The Story..
Since I was using the stamp for the first time, I tested it with a couple of inks.
And Vintage Sepia, won over the others.
And loved how the slender flower looked on the white piece of cardstock, so reinked and restamped.
To make it look like a scene, I inked just the flower and stamped it in angles, like it was being blown away.
[Edited]This card was featured on the Stampendous blog - http://stampendousblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/around-the-interwebs/.
Woot Woot.. :-)

Then, of course, distressing - Walnut Stain and rusty hinge..
But still felt, something was missing.
So ran it through Brick embossing folder from Tim Holtz.
And now the card could be called done.

Decided to leave it plain without sentiment, for future use.
Been a while since I posted anything on my blog
Crazy weeks at work, extremely busy, and had a total brain freeze.
Was too tired to do anything..
Got my reprieve, at the Hero Arts Warehouse Sale, on May 18th.
(Thats a huge story by itself, will write it later)
For now, keeping the post limited to the cards
The Stamp your Story line of Stamps from HA, has me totally hooked.
Journalling, free style, fits into any style.
So have been inking the first set of stamps from this line, again and again and again

So what does careless drips of ink, remind you?
The fountain pens, and the ink stains in uniforms,,
Feels like a lifetime ago..

Then it dawned to me, that I had this Ink-n-Quill stamp.
So what better match than this?

Went with the following colors,
-- London Fog splotches, Ink Pot in Black
-- London Fog splotches, Distressed Wood Distress Ink for the Ink Pot
-- London Fog splotches, Vintage Sepia for the Ink Pot
+ Gray rings, which dont quite show up on the photos, but you should be able to spot them if look closely and squint your eyes (Just kidding :-) )

I fell in love with the first 2 combinations.
The splotches matched so well the theme of the card..
A short story here.
A simple card transformed to a story with the perfect background :-)

The sentiments is from a HA sentiment set for the Archivers, which I picked up from the HA Warehouse haul..

Learnt a lot when making the stamp..
The careless splotches, had to be carefully dripped to look careless :-).. Such an oxymoronic task...
And the Ink Pot had to stamped a bit up and away..
Else it was very congested.. .
London Fog doesnt really go well with Sepia..

Had so much fun creating the cards, that I made multiple ones..

Hope you had fun Looking too
Spring and flowers everywhere..

This week in Moxie Fab, the inspirational photo, was simply too sweet to resist.

I originally started with a literal interpretation, but something didnt fall through, so I put it on backburner and turned my thoughts elsewere. After a while, I decided that I wanted to make another one..
The soft pinks against wood grain, really captivated me.
Slowly, and painfully, this is what I came up with ..

The story behind it..

I wanted to do a stamped interpretation.. Since I dont have a wood grain, background stamp, I had to improvise.. I inked up one side of the Sizzix Embossing folders with Antique Linen Distress Ink, and ran it through the BigShot, with my cardstock, one plate replaced with the Silicone Rubber mat from another Sizzix Textured plates set.
Got a soft wood grain pattern, without the embossing. Exactly the way I wanted.
After much thought, decided on this glass bottle flower vase, from Inkadinkado.
But a single flower wasnt enough, for me.. So pinked up the flower portion of the stamp and created a boutique. Then inked up the bottle in walnut stain and stamped the bottle.
Added stems using my water color pencils.
On a gut feeling, inked up the bottle in a lighter color, masked the already stamped bottle, and added a couple of other shadows. For the second one, I used a couple of distress inks.

For the sentiment, since my son is graduating from Kindergarten, I wanted make this as a Thank You card for this class teacher.
What more than prefect than using the lovely Unity Stamps - Thank You set, which I got from Lets Craft and Create.
Die cut the stamped sentiment, using Spellbinders circles and inked the edges.
Feeling that the card needs more pink, I used a pink cardstock for the base, running it through the Sizzix Embossing folder - Wood Grain twice, as it is bigger than 4.25*5.5, distressed it to make it a bit shabby.
And I was done..

So, I had made this card Normal, are you sure?
for Casology's this week's theme.

I decided I will make one for each of my family members
For all the "normal" things we had done, and for the "normally we would do it, but ...."'s :-)

This time wanted to make it in chalk board style. This is one style I am deeply falling in love with.
And I really really wanted to force me not to use any kraft for a CAS card.. :-)

Here it comes,

For the background whitish look. I Used talcum powder instead of wiping with white stamp ink..
And lightly sponged with a wet baby wipe, that I usually use to clean off the stamps.
Shadowed by hand using a watercolor pencil.
After all the sentimental cards, I had been making for Mothers Day, I so wanted to lighten up things around here..
A funny card, provided the perfect opportunity...
After being over worked for the week, the Eureka moment, came, when I got this idea, to mix these cute set of stamps and create this one..
I guess, this is one card, every one will want for their family :-)

Here is the card :

This alien family, is a part of a cling stamp set from Recollections, which, as usual, I picked up as soon as I saw it, at Michaels.. But this was waiting, for so long, almost long forgotten.

The sentiment is from a Inkadinkado, I dont know which collection though. My original intention of this stamp, was for my scrap booking.. (which I have almost forgotten after this card making craze of mine)
This was again an impulse purchase, perfectly fits my family:-)

The background for the sentiment is recollections page tab (I guess) rubber stamp
Lightly distressed with olive green. And gave a red background, to add a little bit more interest.

Since I wanted to keep this card, CAS, I had to go with a 5*7 stamp, since this cute aliens aren't small to fit within a 4.25*5.5 card..
One more reson, why this is exactly my family, he he..
The standard joke being, we all will not fit into a single picture frame :-)

I had fun creating this, as well as fun looking at this..
Hope this makes you all giggle :-)
